Kosovo police Spokesman Besim Hoti says police took statements from seven witnesses after the shooting that left one Serb dead and two other wounded. He pointed out, however, that none of the questioned persons were suspected of committing the crime. Still no suspects for attack on Serbs in Kosovo Hoti explained that the police had taken statements from six Albanians and one Serb. The Kosovo police spokesman told B92 that the Kosovo police, EULEX and the competent prosecution’s investigative teams would decide whether the questioned persons would still be regarded as witnesses. “The investigative unit is together with EULEX in a phase of gathering possible material evidence. The investigators are taking possible statements from eyewitnesses but the prosecution will decide what would be the status of those persons. For now we do not have any persons arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder,” Hoti noted. He explained that Kosovo police had searched five houses in Kosovska Mitrovica’s neighborhood of Brdjani on Thursday and added that they had found some evidence at the crime scene, namely bullet casings, and that the police would continue to investigate the case. EULEX is working closely with the Kosovo police on the investigation into the murder of 28-year-old Savo Mojsic and wounding of the other two Serbs. EULEX said its investigators had been at the crime scene last night and started questioning witnesses together with the Kosovo police. EULEX has called on everybody to refrain from violent actions and to “let the rule of law do its job”. This includes the freedom of movement so EULEX would be able to conduct this and other investigations, which is in accordance with its mandate, the mission said in a statement. U.S. State Department Spokesman Mark Toner called on both sides in Kosovo to refrain from violence and assist in resolving the crisis. Commenting on Wednesday's killing of the Serbs in Kosovska Mitrovica, Toner told Tanjug that the U.S. wanted “to see an end to the violence in general.” “There is an EU monitoring mission (EULEX) there that is trying to reestablish calm, and we would look to them to carry out their mission,” the State Department spokesman stressed. Toner added that the U.S. urged both sides “to step back and reduce tensions.” Two injured Serbs are seen in hospital beds (Beta)
