Serbian parliament Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic said Wednesday in Washington she had called on the U.S. to use its influence on Pristina. She added that the U.S. should use its influence to help the two sides reach an agreement through dialogue and make Serbia's EU candidate status a certainty. “We think the influence of the U.S., which is regarded very highly in Priština, can be very powerful and we expect it from our U.S. friends,” the speaker said at the end of her three-day visit to the U.S.

She told Serbian reporters in Washington that it was hard to expect a major power like the U.S. to easily change its positions, but added it could surely understand how sensitive the Kosovo issue was for Serbs.

During her visit, Đukić-Dejanović met with representative and former House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Subcommittee on Europe and Eurasia Chairman Dan Burton, who also co-chairs the Congressional Serbian Caucus together with Pete Visclosky.
