Boycott of census is meaningless, minister says

Human and Minority Rights Minister Milan Markovic has said that the announced boycott of the upcoming census will be useless for ethnic minorities. “There is no dilemma that there are no reasons for the boycott. It’s a political decision that has nothing to do with the census. There is no use to boycott it because that way you can only slow down solving of problems or make them even deeper,” the minister pointed out. Boycott of census is meaningless, minister says He stressed that he had been assured by the Statistical Office that the census would be conducted in accordance with the highest European standards. “It is difficult to find a reason for boycott. Members of ethnic minorities are among the surveyors. As far as Albanians are concerned, the moment their representatives decided to boycott is odd. I think that it is connected to the events in Kosovo and that the boycott is for the sake of somebody from Pristina,” Markovic explained.
