Belgrade team chief Borislav Stefanovic said Tuesday it was necessary that KFOR returns into the framework of their mandate and stops removing the barricades. He added that their recent activities could cause negative effects for the already fragile peace and stability in northern Kosovo. Team chief calls on KFOR to stop removing barricades "I think what KFOR is doing is very wrong. By making such moves, they are trying to violate our position ahead of negotiations, which is completely unnecessary, and it is absolutely unacceptable for us that they use force and arrest people who have been peacefully protesting," Stefanovic told Tanjug. He added that by this KFOR violated their mandate, bearing in mind that their obligation is to ensure safety, and not ''to engage in police work.'' On the eve of his trip to Brussels, where the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue will be continued and the Belgrade team will also confer with officials of the international community about the situation on administrative crossings in northern Kosovo, the Belgrade team head said that he would inform his interlocutors about Belgrade's stand on the early Tuesday occurrences. “It is very important that all the interlocutors in this process understand that unilateral, and especially violent moves cannot lead to a solution, but rather to escalation of crisis,” he pointed out. Stefanovic underlined that he expected that the talks be used to initiate the process of agreement on the Jarinje and Brnjak checkpoints, adding that the Belgrade team would present their proposals and hear the interlocutors' opinions about that, but with no illusions that all problems would be solved on the same day. On Tuesday morning KFOR closed an alternative road near the Jarinje checkpoint, on the same day when Belgrade and the international community should hold talks on the current situation at the crossings. KFOR also undertook another action of removing the new barricade at the Jarinje checkpoint and arrested several people. Borislav Stefanovic and northern Kosovo Serbs (Tanjug, file)
