Estonia is a proponent of Serbia getting EU candidate status, Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves told Serbian President Boris Tadic in New York. “The EU needs Serbia and Serbia needs the EU,” Ilves said during Thursday night's meeting, Itar-Tass has reported. EU needs Serbia, Estonian president says According to the Estonian president, important issues in the Balkans cannot be solved without the involvement of Serbia. “Belgrade is also showing impressive results in conducting reforms needed for EU integration,” he explained. Ilves said it was equally important that the European aspirations of the political leaders were understood and shared by the majority of the Serbian people. “Estonia is ready to share its accession talks experiences with Serbia,” Ilves pointed out.
