According to Pristina media, KFOR and EULEX will not remove barricades until Kosovo officials return from the UN General Assembly sitting. Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga and Prime Minister Hashim Thaci are attending this week’s UN General Assembly meeting in New York. “Barricades won’t be removed until UN GA sitting is over” “KFOR and EULEX have decided in consultations with the Kosovo institutions not to make any attempt to remove obstacles on the roads while Kosovo leaders are taking part in the UN General Assembly in New York,” Pristina-based Albanian language daily Zeri has reported. The daily added that the international security officials in Kosovo believed that removal of barricades from the roads in the north was not only an international obligation. EULEX and KFOR believe that Pristina and Belgrade’s political representatives should also deal with the issue in Brussels because the freedom of movement in the north was a political issue as well. Zeri pointed out that Pristina’s operation at the Jarinje and Brnjak checkpoints and international forces’ support had sent a clear message that the north would not be separated from the rest of Kosovo and that the international community would take part in finding a solution. The daily stressed that a transitional solution for the north could be such that neither Serbs nor Albanians are in the power but the international community instead, which would balance and calm down “tensions” between the local self-government and the central government in Pristina until a consensus on the status of northern Kosovo is reached.
