The U.S. State Department has called on all sides in Kosovo to preserve peace, avoid rash moves and refrain themselves from inflammatory rhetoric. The U.S. has expressed concern over increasing tensions in Kosovo. U.S. calls for restraint in Kosovo State Department Spokesman Mark Toner said at a press briefing on Friday night that the U.S. believed that “anything that raises tensions between them, I think, could harm the dialogue, and that’s something we believe very strongly that the dialogue should continue, that it’s a positive development, and again, that it’s in keeping with the Euro-Atlantic aspirations of both countries.” “There have been – there has been a rise in tensions recently, and we’re certainly concerned about the situation there. We simply call on all parties to maintain calm and to avoid precipitous actions and also to refrain from any kind of inflammatory rhetoric,” Toner pointed out. The U.S. State Department has welcomed EULEX and KFOR’s efforts to “ensure a safe and secure environment and to enable the free movement of both goods and people in both directions over the Kosovo and Serbia border.” “It goes without saying that the free movement of people and goods over the border is in both Kosovo’s and Serbia’s interests here and is certainly keeping with each country’s EU aspirations. So in that regard, any roadblocks and barricades only serve to impair and restrict the daily lives of the people of Kosovo and Serbia,” the State Department spokesman stressed.
