United Regions of Serbia (URS) leader Mladjan Dinkic has said Serbia has a chance to get the EU candidate status and that it should not gamble it away. "Serbia must not give up on its EU pathway, but we need to be aware that Europe will not resolve our problems, that is something we have to do on our own," Dinkic told daily Vecernje novosti. “Serbia shouldn’t waste chance to get EU candidate status” "Until we reach the EU membership, which is a very long way ahead, we have to do our best to improve the everyday lives of the citizens," he added. The URS leader believes that the government is not listening to the voice of economy, and is underestimating the second wave of crisis. "Unless adequate measures are taken immediately, I am afraid we will experience a new wave of dismissals. Decisions are being made very slowly, and the situation is getting worse by the hour," he pointed out, warning that the economic data from July are very disconcerting. "There is a significant drop in industrial production, and for the first time in 16 months, a drop in the gross domestic product. If that trend continues, there is a danger that Serbia will once again sink into a recession," Dinkic said. Speaking about Kosovo, he stressed that it was most important that Serbs in Kosovo were not threatened, that they had jobs and peaceful lives. "Serbia will never recognize the independence of Kosovo, but this does not mean that we should stop living," he underscored, adding that Serbia should have resolved the issue of customs stamps two years ago. “No one can ban us from helping our people on Kosovo-Metohija, because that is our obligation,” the URS leader noted. He announced that URS would not form pre-election coalitions with other political parties, except possibly with Rasim Ljajic's Social Democratic Party of Serbia. Mladjan Dinkic (Beta)
