"Why not have Russians in Kosovo?"

Ivica Dacic stated on Monday that Serbia should invite "a number of countries, including Russia", to join international forces in Kosovo and Metohija. The Serbian Deputy prime minister and minister of the interior spoke while visiting the police (MUP) Gendarmes deployed along the administrative line between central Serbia and Kosovo. "Why not have Russians in Kosovo?" After visiting the administrative checkpoint at the Rudnica village in the municipality of Raska, Dacic wondered “why wouldn't Russians be in Kosovo, whose contingent left KFOR?” But according to reports, he also "pointed out that the issue was not within his competence". “It is important that the international forces remain neutral,” Dacic said, adding that during the July crisis over the checkpoints in the Serb north, the international forces in Kosovo took the side of the Kosovo Albanian authorities, turning themselves into Hashim Thaci's "infantry”, and causing local Serbs to react against them. Dacic said that the unilateral moves made by Pristina in July had created an unstable situation in the north, and added that Pristina's current position represents “dangerous playing with fire.” Dacic called on members of the international missions in Kosovo and Metohija "to remain status neutral" and added that Serbia would present that request at the UN Security Council session on Kosovo scheduled for Tuesday.
