Hungarian police have remanded six persons in custody under suspicion of being involved in a mass murder at Budapest’s Csepel district. According to National Bureau of Investigation (NNI) Director Zoltan Csizner, all suspects belong to the same gang that lived among homeless people in the district’s wooded area. Hungary: Six suspects in custody “The leader of the gang, that police have been following since April this year, told the investigative authorities that he has been in Hungary since 2007 and that he is Macedonian, but he could not confirm that with any document,” Csizner stressed. He said that the Hungarian police had therefore requested international help. The criminal group committed several serious crimes. Three gang members were arrested last spring for a series of armed robberies and are still in custody. Police suspect that the gang is also responsible for the murders in Csepel that came to light when a 30-year-old Romanian man, who was robbed, beaten and buried up to his neck, managed to dig himself out and call the police. “According to the young man’s description we immediately knew this was the same gang. The group’s leader and two of his helpers were arrested on August 4 and another three persons were arrested later, so we currently have six suspects in custody,” the NNI director told a press conference.
