EULEX Head Xavier Bout de Marnhac stated on Thursday that the EULEX mission had stepped up police patrols in north Kosovo. He added that EULEX had opened investigations into fire at the Jarinje administrative checkpoint, murder of members of Kosovo police and other crimes committed in the last two weeks. Violence is unacceptable and we are working to bring the perpetrators to justice,” de Marnhac stated in the talks with German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle during their visit to the Jarinje administrative crossing in north Kosovo. During the visit to Jarinje, de Marnhac and Westerwelle were accompanied by KFOR Commander Erhard Buehler. The EULEX chief and Buehler informed Westerwelle about the current situation and the activities that KFOR and EULEX have taken in order to ease tensions and enforce the rule of law in north Kosovo, the EULEX statement reads. “I am grateful to Minister Westerwelle and Germany for their support to EULEX. I had an opportunity to brief the minister about our activities at the crossing and in the north of Kosovo. We are cooperating with KFOR in an effort to reduce tensions and move ahead.
