Belgrade-based daily Blic claims that the opposition Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) is to blame for a failed session of Serb municipalities in the north. "DSS councilors are the ones who have unabled the holding of the session in Leposavic and they did so upon order from their party leaders in Belgrade," the newspaper writes. Daily says DSS to blame for failure of session The report says that the party holds power in the Zubin Potok municipality in northern Kosovo, and that Mayor Slavisa Ristic a DSS member. Ristic did not appear at the Leposavic session on Tuesday, even though he confirmed his presence. In addition, DSS councilors from other municipalities who came to Leposavic "created such a commotion in the assembly hall, that they in effect prevented the chairman of the joint municipalities session from speaking and being heard”, writes Blic, a daily considered to be close to the ruling Democratic Party (DS). An unnamed source was quoted as saying that "the only decision that could be made in such an atmosphere was to postpone the session". Member of the municipal assembly of Kosovska Mitrovica Marko Jaksic, one of the most influential DSS members in Kosovo, accused the authorities in Belgrade of “betraying” Kosovo Serbs, saying that Serbs from northern Kosovo are against what he dubbed the “Tadic-Thaci agreement”. Then DSS issued a statement saying that the agreement with KFOR represents a concession by Serbian authorities to implement former UN envoy Martti Ahtisaari’s plan for Kosovo - rejected by Belgrade and never approved by the UN - in the north of the province. According to this, the party also assessed that the Serbian government has breached the declaration adopted on July 30 in parliament saying that the situation that was effective before the “violent and unilateral action (by Kosovo Albanian authorities) on July 25 on the crossings of Jarinje and Brnjak will have to be restored”. “DSS describes this as a disastrous policy of concealed and crawling recognition of Kosovo’s independence”, concludes the statement. The party's leader is former Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica.
