The Ministry of Foreign Affairs today denied media reports that FM Vuk Jeremic attempted to replace the ministry's political director, Borko Stefanovic. Stefanovic currently heads the Belgrade team in the Kosovo talks, but according to reports in the Belgrade-based daily Blic, Jeremic wanted him removed from his MFA job. MFA denies Jeremic tried to sack Stefanovic "Reports in today's press are simply not true," Jeremic's cabinet said. According to the Blic report, Stefanovic's job was "saved by the bell" - and after Serbian President and ruling DS party leader Boris Tadic intervened. According to this, Jeremic wanted a political director who would be fully dedicated to his duties at the ministry, appraising that Stefanovic was preoccupied with his "many obligations". The paper also said that Jeremic stated that the work of the ministry and the process of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue "should be completely separate because they have conflicting goals". Stefanovic made a statement for the newspaper saying that he "performed his MFA duties as usual".
