The lawyer Sandor Kepiro, acquitted by a Budapest court of war crime charges against Jews, Serbs and Roma, appealed the ruling. The defense lawyer said the acquittal "did not go far enough in clearing his client". Kepiro's lawyer appeals first-instance ruling The Budapest court dismissed all charges against Kepiro for lack of evidence to prove that the former officer of the Hungarian WW2 fascist forces in occupied Serbia was directly responsible for the murder of 36 people during the Novi Sad Raid massacre in January 1942. Defense lawyer Zsolt Zetenyi told the Associated Press news agency that he has filed an appeal asking that Kepiro's acquittal be based instead on the fact that he did not commit any crimes during the January 1942 raids that killed some 1,200 civilians, mostly Serbs and Jews, whose bodies were dumped into the Danube River. Kepiro, whose trial started May 5, was transported for Monday's court session by ambulance and was taken back to hospital after Judge Bela Varga announced the verdict, the AP said. Prosecutor Zsolt Falvai said Tuesday that he also would appeal the ruling. Falvai said he considered the verdict unfounded as in several instances the reasons for the judgment were inconsistent and contradictory.
