Chairman of the OSCE and Lithuanian FM Audronius Azubalis stated on Wednesday that Serbia has made great contribution to the renewal of regional stability. He noted that the country sets a good example of regional reconciliation not only to Europe, but also to the entire world. OSCE chairman: Serbia is example of reconciliation The visit of Serbian President Boris Tadic to Srebrenica and his meeting with Croatian President Ivo Josipovic are proofs that the problems of the past have been left behind and the time for reconciliation has come, Azubalis said after a meeting with Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic. He said Serbia can set an example not only to Europe but also to the entire world since there are many countries which are not capable of overcoming their past. Speaking about the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, the Lithuanian minister said that Serbia has showed firm intentions to establish a sustainable dialogue, adding that he is aware that this is not an easy job and that there are many sensitive issues but that Serbia has showed great courage. He also expressed gratitude to Serbia for its help in reaching a consensus regarding the election of the OSCE secretary general who, as he put it, is one of the key figures in this organization. When asked when Lithuania will ratify the Agreement on Stabilization and Association between Serbia and the EU, Azubalis said that such a move needs to have the consent of the parliamentary majority. "Once I am certain that such a move will be ratified by the parliamentary majority, I will forward the proposal," he said. Jeremic expressed belief that the annual session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Belgrade will make an important contribution to peace and stability in the area from Vladivostok to Vancouver. He underlined that this is an important meeting which is held in the same city where the first meeting of OSCE was held, which at the time appeared under the name the Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe (CSCE), after signing of the OSCE's founding document in Helsinki in 1975. Serbia is actively committed to the principles and values of the OSCE. We believe that this is one the most important organizations for security, Jeremic said. Serbia supports all priorities of Lithuania's presidency over OSCE and takes an active part in their implementation as a member of the friendship group of the chair. As for the resolution on human organ trafficking in Kosovo which was submitted to OSCE by Serbian MPs, Jeremic recalled that an investigation under the UN mandate is of extreme importance for Serbia. He expressed certainty that Serbian MPs will do everything in their might to see the resolution adopted. Audronius Azubalis (Beta)
