EULEX prosecutors are supervising the legal proceedings in the case of a group of Serbs arrested in Gazimestan and are monitoring the situation. This is according to a EULEX spokesperson, quoted by Tanjug on Tuesday. "Our prosecutors are supervising the legal proceedings. The five arrested Serbs were given a one-month detention. One of them is in custody in Pristina, and the other four in Gnjilane. Lawyer Ljubomir Pantovic told Tanjug that his client Slavko Djordan (23) from Kragujevac was beaten up during the arrest in Gazimestan, and that members of the Kosovo police, KPS, inflicted severe bodily injuries on him. Pantovic said that he does not have information about the other four arrested Serbs, and announced that he will insist for the entire case to be taken over by EULEX judge and prosecutors, as he doubts the objectivity of local judicial bodies. Djordan's nose was broken and his head hurt when KPS members forced him out of his car, held his head and repeatedly slammed it against the car roof, his lawyer said. According to the indictment, the arrested persons are charged with attacking the Kosovo police, who were forced to defend themselves. Serbs were gathered at Gazimestan, near Pristina, to mark the anniversary of the Battle of Kosovo, where in 1389 soldiers of the medieval Serbian kingdom faced the invading Ottoman Turks.
