As long as Hague fugitive Goran Hadzic is at large the Netherlands will not ratify the Association and Stabilization Agreement (SAA), daily Danas has learned. The Dutch parliament did not adopt Christian Democratic Party (CDA) proposal to put the ratification of the SAA on the parliamentary agenda since the Serbian authorities had arrested and extradited the most wanted Hague indictee Ratko Mladic. "Dutch now have new condition for Serbia" The reason for such decision is the fact that Hadzic is still at large, the Dutch MPs told the daily. Green Party of the Netherlands MP Arjan El Fassed pointed out that only his party had supported the CDA’s initiative while other parties, including ruling People's Party for Freedom and Democracy, Labour Party and Socialist Party, were against it. “There was no big debate on the SAA ratification. The opponents of the idea said that it was still early to discuss the issue because Goran Hadzic is still at large, even though Hague Tribunal Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz was positive for the official Belgrade thanks to Ratko Mladic’s arrest,“ El Fassed was quoted as saying. According to him, the Dutch parliamentary European Affairs Committee did not discuss whether Serbia should get the EU candidate status and a date for the beginning of the accession negotiations. El Fassed pointed out that most Dutch parties were “euro-skeptical” but that representatives of those parties could not block Serbia’s further progress toward the EU if Hadzic was arrested and extradited to The Hague. The Netherlands has so far been conditioning continuation of Serbia’s EU integration by full cooperation with the Hague Tribunal. 18 out of 27 EU member states have so far ratified the SAA between Serbia and the EU and the European Parliament (EP) ratified it in January. Serbia has political problems with the Netherlands, Belgium and Poland. Belgium is yet to present its position, Poland wants property issues of the Serbian Embassy in Warsaw resolved, while the Dutch want to see Hadzic arrested and extradited.
