Serbian government’s EU Integration Office Director Milica Delevic says that the European Union has no “hidden messages”. She added that the European Commission (EC) opinion would be positive if the government fulfilled as many Brussels’ recommendations as possible. “No hidden messages from Brussels” She hopes that the EC is going to announce on October 12 that Serbia deserves to get the EU candidate status. “I think it is very transparent. We are obliged to fulfill the recommendations from the action plan and measures that refer to blank resignation letters and financing of parties are most important to the EC,” Delevic explained. According to her, Serbia would, until EU Council of Ministers decision on granting Serbia EU candidate status in December, work on creating an atmosphere among the ministers that voting for Serbia is a “natural, normal and indisputable thing“. Milica Delevic (Tanjug) Visa regime reintroduction to “remain only warning“ The EU Integration Office director has warned that Serbia needs to fulfill EC recommendations and reduce the number of false asylum seekers in order to avoid facing new suggestions about changing of visa-free regime regulations. “It is up to us to reduce the number of false asylum seekers and that this that now looks like a possibility and a threat remains only a warning,“ Delevic pointed out. She added that it was a good thing that the number of false asylum seekers was slowly reducing. “European Commission's new proposal that envisages temporary suspension of the visa-free regime was not made for Serbia or any other country but that does not mean that Serbia should not fulfill recommendations it received from the EC,“ the EU Integration Office director stressed. She stated that Serbia also needed to improve its citizens' living conditions since the largest number of false asylum seekers were leaving Serbia due to economic reasons. EC won't write Serbia's laws Delevic said that the EC “quite certainly“ would not propose legal solutions, especially when it came to laws on spatial planning and restitution. “The Commission will in this case only note whether a solution is good or not and if it is not, it will be necessary to find an appropriate model in the area defined by the European standards,“ she said Tuesday. Delevic also repeated that the EU member states had different ways of solving the issue of restitutions and that there was not only one solution. “The European Commission treats the issue of restitution as a human rights issue but also a business security issue,“ she explained. Delevic added that there were cases in which investors had been interested in some building or land but that they were often discouraged by unsolved ownership issues.
