Parliament on amendments abolishing blank resignations

The Serbian parliament will on Tuesday in Belgrade discuss amendments to the law on election of parliament members. These are meant to abolish blank resignations and state that parliament member mandates should be given according to the order in which the candidates' names are listed during the poll. Parliament on amendments abolishing blank resignations So far 109 deputies have given their signatures in support of the amendments. These are members of the ruling Democratic Party, United Regions of Serbia, Party of United Pensioners of Serbia and two parliament members from minority parties. Another 30 amendments in addition to these have also been proposed. The Liberal Democratic Party has announced it would support the amendments. The parliamentary committee for the judiciary and administration adopted three amendments on Monday. These were proposed by the Democratic Party and the Socialist Party of Serbia. One of them was put forth by Democratic Party deputy Vlatko Ratkovic and states that if female parliament member loses her mandate, she is replaced by the next person on the party's election list, regardless of gender.
