Serbia can get candidate status "by year’s end"

European Parliament (EP) Rapporteur for Serbia Jelko Kacin has stated that Serbia could get the EU candidate status by the end of the year. He added that Serbia could start the accession negotiations next spring. Kacin repeated that Hague Tribunal Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz stressed in his latest report to the UN Security Council that two remaining Hague fugitives Ratko Mladic and Goran Hadzic still had not been arrested. The EP rapporteur expressed concern over declining support to the EU enlargement process among the member states and pointed out that it was necessary to constantly work on strengthening the EU.
