An uncompromising fight against corruption is one of the key areas which will be monitored in the EU integration process, Justice Minister Snezana Malovic said. “This is why it is important to do everything to bring it down to a minimum,” she told dialy Politika. Combat against corruption “important for EU integration" Malovic, whom the government appointed the coordinator of state bodies in the fight against corruption, said that in order to root out corruption one needed to first look at the environment which allowed it to thrive, pointing out that the law on financing political parties would be a big help in the process. In order to achieve this, she noted, "work needs to be done on strengthening internal control in public procurements, and preventing conflicts of interest in campaign and political party funding." "If corruption is a threat to the state, then its suppression cannot be a job for just one body. This is why the work of all state bodies, primarily ministries, the police and prosecutor's office, will be intensified and coordinated, so that Serbia can reduce the level of corruption, which is worryingly high," Malovic was quoted as saying. The minister added that a national strategy and an action plan for combating corruption should be ready soon, and that these documents would specify the steps for the implementation of laws in this area. She also stressed that Serbia could not start a systematic fight against corruption without a national strategy. Snezana Malovic (Tanjug)
