Interior Minister Ivica Dacic says that the measures against false asylum seekers will impose stricter control, but with respect for human rights. “That is in the interest of all parties,” Dacic said after the meeting with Minister for Human and Minority Rights, Public Administration and Local Self-Government Milan Markovic, Mayor of Bujanovac Saip Kamberi, Chairman of the National Council of the Albanian national minority Galip Beciri and MP Riza Halimi. "Stricter control, respect for human rights" Dacic said that the reduction in the number of false asylum seekers was "a common goal". "Together with the EU member states which already have additional expenses due to problem of false asylum seekers, Serbia should devise programs that would promote reintegration and integration of citizens in the most problematic areas, which generate the greatest number of asylum seekers. In addition to that, the country should realize economic projects that would enable these citizens to stay in their places of residence," he added. According to Dacic, the participants of the meeting discussed implementation of a common policy which would provide better living conditions for the citizens in the municipalities of Bujanovac, Medvedja, and Presevo, and prevent people from this area in southern Serbia from seeking asylum. Halimi qualified the meeting as successful, and said that the visa-free regime is in the interest of all parties and that the government should spare no efforts to protect it. Halimi pointed to the fact that there should be more ethnic Albanians in the state institutions and the police in southern Serbia, as well as that the economic situation, which is the root cause of this phenomenon, should be improved. Markovic, who also identified the current economic situation as the root cause for the occurrence of false asylum seekers, added that the government has already launched a number of programs aimed at integration of the citizens of Albanian nationality living in that part of Serbia in the police and other state bodies.
