In several other towns billboards appeared with the message, "May 21 is Judgment Day, cry forcefully toward God". This caused fear among residents, said reports, and prompted the Macedonian police to detain the pair handing out fliers. Both are said to be foreign nationals. However, they were told that the content of the fliers was disturbing, and asked to stop spreading that particular message. The persons detained belong to a religious cult based in New York, according to reports. Their spiritual leader claims to have "discovered the secrets of the Bible through mathematical calculations", and thus arrived at May 21 as the date of Judgment Day.
