Government EU Integration Office Director Milica Delevic says strategic partnerships with other countries are increasing Serbia's international legitimacy. The strategic partnerships already in place or about to be signed show that Serbia is transforming from a country seen as an exporter of problems into a reliable partner, she believes. Officials on importance of strategic partnerships Delevic also explained that these partnership "resemble contract that Serbia has with regional countries, but differ in that they contain a higher, political level". "I see it as an indicator of the transformation of Serbia, which was seen as an exporter of problems during the 1990s, and which for a long time was accustomed to attract attention as a potential problem. If someone is ready to enter a strategic partnership it means you are no longer a problem, but that you are a potential solution, a predictable partner," said she. Partnership with EU's oldest members Italy and France is particularly important for Serbia. Chamber of Commerce (PKS) President Milos Bugarin says that most trade is conducted with Italy, since Serbia has the lowest deficit and a growing trade trend with this country. Serbia has signed strategic partnership contracts with China, Italy and France, and will soon enter such an arrangement with Russia as well. Milica Delevic (Beta, file)
