No significant results were achieved in Serbia in battle against corruption, chairman of Transparency Serbia organization Vladimir Goati said on Tuesday. Speaking in Belgrade, he said that the public expected that the actions of judicial institutions would be turned towards corruption in politics. Lack of progress in fighting corruption "Perhaps it would be the right moment to find some leads in that area since the parties were obligated to deliver reports on their financing," Goati emphasized. Goati noted that the way of appointing mandates within parties and blank resignations were the two possible sources of corruption in politics, since these rules secured the obedience of MPs. He added that it would be easier to deal with corruption in politics when these two issues were solved. However, Goati was concerned that the solution for them would be hard to find. Executive director of Transparency Serbia Nemanja Nenadic emphasized, considering the assessment of Venetian Commission on the draft of Law on Financing of Political Activities, that the commission gave the opinion on the draft that was delivered to it, but that the new changed draft of the law was not yet published. He said that the most important comment of the commission referred to loans to the parties and added that the terms under which parties get the loans must be public. Nenadic stated that there were assessments that the parties need more money than what they get from the budget and he emphasized that the funds were maybe coming from the sources that were not allowed or parties avoided paying expenses.
