Ministry for Kosovo State Secretary Oliver Ivanovic says that calling of early elections in Serbia could interrupt and delay the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue. He told Tanjug that the election campaign that would ensue if early elections were to be called could lead to a potential delay in the Belgrade-Prisitna dialogue. Early elections “could delay Belgrade-Pristina dialogue” “In any case, it is unlikely that authorities would pay much care to matters such as the dialogue in the middle of the election campaign,” Ivanovic said and added that Serbia could resort to steps similar to those taken by Albanians who postponed the beginning of the talks due to their election campaign and elections. The state secretary pointed out that during an election campaign, anyone could hardly be expected to think rationally about topics that, although highly important, tended to be pushed to the background during such a campaign. However, Kosovska Mitrovica Mayor and head of the local Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) municipal board Krstimir Pantic has a different stand on the issue of the elections and the dialogue. He told Tanjug that calling early elections would not lead to an interruption in the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue. “Albanians were also experiencing problems since their former president was dismissed until the new one was appointed, but it did not lead to the interruption of the dialogue, which implies that in case early elections were to be called in Serbia, there would be no interruption of the dialogue either,” Pantic believes.
