Serbian President Boris Tadic stated on Friday that the elections should be called after obtaining an EU candidate status. He also estimated that Serbia needs stability, and not ultimatums, veiled threats of violence and bidding on dates. Tadic: Candidate status first, then elections “Parliamentary elections should be called after the EU member states deliver an opinion on the country's candidacy bid,” the president's press service released. "Elections should be part of our European agenda and a contribution to speedier progress toward EU membership, and not an impediment in that process. Serbia needs stability to finish this important job," said Tadic, who met with opposition Serb Progressive Party (SNS) leader Tomislav Nikolic on Thursday. The Serbian president and leader of the ruling Democrats (DS) added that he understands the impatience and anxiousness exhibited by some opposition parties, but that Serbia does not need instability and constant veiled threats of violence, but the exact opposite - stability, work on solving problems and certainty. "After getting candidate status, which will benefit all our citizens, the elections will be held in a peaceful, civilized and democratic atmosphere. Ultimatums, threats and bidding on dates are completely inappropriate methods," Tadic pointed out. Boris Tadic (Tanjug, file)
