The Constitutional Court has assessed that regulations of the Law on Local Elections referring to blank resignation letters are unconstitutional. Former Constitutional Court President Bosa Nenadic has explained that the court’s view also referred to protection of voting rights on all levels. Blank resignation letters unconstitutional She said that the court had declared unconstitutional regulations regarding blank resignation letters and distribution of mandates last year and that the “court’s position referred to the voting rights for all elected officials, from the local government to the national parliament”. Speaking about the Constitutional Court's work during last year, Nenadic stressed that the court had ruled on 590 constitutional complaints and that 24 percent of them referred to violation of right to trial within a reasonable time. “This shows that our judicial system still suffers from inefficiency,” she pointed out and added that some litigations in Serbia lasted for 33 years. She said that the court had declared unconstitutional regulations regarding blank resignation letters and distribution of mandates last year and that the “court’s position referred to the voting rights for all elected officials, from the local government to the national parliament”.
