President of parliament's working group for drafting the Law on the Election of MPs Nada Kolundzija says that the law should be adopted by the end of May. The ruling DS MP pointed out that the law would be adopted with respect to Venice Commission’s suggestions. Law on election of MPs expected in May “We now have much more concrete instructions (from the Venice Commission) and it is really much simpler now to make the draft law,” Kolundzija told B92. Commenting on some parties’ allegations that they did not participate in the drafting of the amendments to the law on the election of MPs and proposals that were sent to the Venice Commission, she said that a concrete draft document had not been sent and that it was an “inquiry based on which concrete suggestions and clearer instructions are expected”. She said that a concrete draft law should be done based on the opinion and the inquiry. According to her, the “inquiry” has been drafted and sent based on the working group’s meeting and consultations with parliamentary groups’ heads. “I had a conversation with many parliamentary groups, some did not respond,” Kolundzija stressed and added that she had talked to representatives of the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and G17 Plus. She pointed out that everything had been done regarding MPs’ blank resignation letters and that the Venice Commission had recognized and accepted it. “As far as transfer of MPs to other caucuses is concerned, it is completely irrelevant to the DS (Democratic Party) if someone leaves majority or minority, on which side they were and where they are going to go,” Kolundzija stressed. She pointed out that the DS was going to propose that there be no restrictions regarding transfer of MPs to other caucuses or forming of new ones. “We hope that we will have support for that, primarily bearing in mind the Venice Commission’s recommendations,” Kolundzija said. Commenting on a proposed solution to have the court notarize the MPs’ resignation letters, she explained that “it prevents someone from putting down their resignation and a party from activating it”.
