A date when early parliamentary elections would be held was not set at the Democratic Party (DS) Main Board meeting yesterday. Analysts say that DS leader Boris Tadic’s statement that the elections should be held after Serbia gets the EU candidate status is aimed at calming down the public and the opposition. Election date still unknown Belgrade Mayor Dragan Djilas was elected DS deputy leader yesterday, which does not come as a surprise to the analysts who believe that he could replace Tadic at some point. Even though the public was expecting the situation regarding the early elections to be clearer after the DS Main Board meeting, the date for the elections has not been set. Political analyst Djordje Vukadinovic sees Tadic's readiness to talk about the elections as an attempt to calm the situation down. “Effort and desire are there in order to get the impression that they want to meet the opposition's requests, without formal obligation. The statement about the elections attempted to calm down the tensions and even pacify the opposition, without formal obligation and at the same time to show some reconcilability,“ he explained. Political analyst Milan Nikolic is not surprised that Djilas was chosen to be new DS deputy leader. “As far as Mr. Djilas' role is concerned, he proved to be a very successful mayor and I am not surprised that he was elected to be Mr. Tadic's deputy. Therefore, Djilas will some day, sooner or later, replace Mr. Tadic,“ he stressed. Dragan Djilas (Beta)
