Croatia: Fresh anti-government protests

Several thousands of citizens protested against the government in Zagreb yesterday, demanding PM Jadranka Kosor’s resignation and early parliamentary elections.

Several thousands of citizens protested against the government in Zagreb yesterday, demanding PM Jadranka Kosor’s resignation and early parliamentary elections. Similar rallies were held in several other cities in Croatia. Croatia: Fresh anti-government protests The protesters in Zagreb first attempted to reach the government headquarters but were stopped by police. Then they went to the Croatian State Prosecution and Anti-Corruption Agency, yelling “Catch the mafia” and “We want justice”. The demonstrators then lit candles for victims of the earthquake in front the Japanese Embassy. They also chanted pejorative slogans in front of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) headquarters and party official Vladimir Seks’ apartment building. Other than Croatian flags, the demonstrators also carried banners saying “I love Croatia, not the EU”. Police arrested one of the organizers of the protest Ivan Pernar for trying to get to the government headquarters. He was later released and police have announced that they will file misdemeanor charges against Pernar. Anti-government protests were also held in Zadar, Virovitica, Slavonski Brod, Koprivnica, Rijeka, Sisak, Sibenik, Pula and Varazdin. (Beta)
