Both Russia and the UN expect that the competent international institutions will carry out an investigation into the Kosovo organ trafficking allegations. The results of such a probe will be relevant and well-grounded, UN mission in Kosovo, UNMIK, chief Lamberto Zannier stated on Friday. "We also expect that the Kosovo government will offer its explanations regarding that complex issue," Zannier told the Russian daily Noviye Izvestiya. He said that it was one of the reasons for his visit to Moscow two days ago, where he discussed the matter with Russian Deputy Foreign Ministers Vladimir Titov and Alexander Grushko. Commenting on the Kosovo Albanian authorities request that the UN presence in Kosovo be reconsidered, Zannier recalled that less than a half of the UN member states recognized the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo and that the new Kosovo leadership has it plans and ambitions, and wants to start anew and leave the past behind it. "At the moment, Kosovo is forced to cooperate only with the countries which have recognized its independence. Our job is to assist it in cooperating with all countries, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 1244, and to help the people of Kosovo integrate into the international community," the UNMIK chief said adding that the European Union will also play an important role in establishing the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue. Asked if a large-scale international conflict is still a threat, Zannier said that the UN backs a multinational Kosovo and that no one wants it to be a "mono-national" community.
