Opposition SNS deputy leader Aleksandar Vucic said the announced changes in the government were irresponsible and reckless. The number of departments would be reduced to 17 ministries with no changes in regard to the personnel, he said, and assessed that the change will only help the current government buy time until the next elections. Opposition: Ruling coalition "buying time" “They cannot convince me that an employee of (former minister of economy Mladjan) Dinkic will be more efficient and act more responsibly than Dinkic himself, or that (minister of infrastructure Milutin) Mrkonjic will be more successful if he also performs the tasks of energy mister,” Vucic told a press conference. He evaluated that the present government is completely blind and does not see any of the problems, and that it is using marketing tricks to buy time until the summer, when it will start preparing itself for elections, hoping to win them. “But that will not be possible, because their expiry date will come long before the next elections, and there is nothing that can save them,” he added. Vucic urged the representatives of the authority to think the matter over and call early parliamentary elections, adding that his party is already making preparations for the protest rally in Belgrade set for April 16. However, we hope that the authority will act “prudently and accept the reality,” he added. Vucic announced that he and SNS leader Tomislav Nikolic will go to Brussels on March 17, where they will have talks with EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fuele and the representatives of people's parties in Europe, a family SNS hopes to join by the end of the year. Aleksandar Vucic (Beta, file) "Resign" The parliamentary club of the opposition Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) submitted an open letter to Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic on Friday, calling on him to hand in his resignation, as his entire mandate was marked by numerous violations of the Constitution and laws. The same letter was addressed to parliament speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic. DSS reiterates that, at the first extraordinary sitting on February 21, the parliament confirmed the resignations of three ministers, whereby conditions were created for the prime minister to submit the names of new ministers within 15 days, that is by March 8. "The number of ministries is determined by the Law on Ministries and if that number changes, a new law has to be adopted by March 8. There is another constitutional and legal possibility which would be best for the Serbian citizens, and that the prime minister's resignation," the letter reads. DSS believes that "any other option would represent a blatant violation of the Constitution and laws" and further deterioration of the legal order, and that "now that the government has fallen apart, the replacement of several ministers cannot possibly be carried out in accordance with the Constitution and laws."
