Justice Minister Snezana Malovic says that an extensive verification is under way regarding the data related to the operations of the Kolubara Coal Mine. The Serbian parliament is also debating on the public companies. "Verification of data" in mine controversy The justice minister has repeated that a pre-trial procedure was launched in 2008, adding that two complaints of irregularities in the company were previously dropped. “I expect our state organs to give their opinion and to launch an investigation if there is reasonable doubt, to get to the truth and take all measures,” she said when MPs asked her about a progress of the investigation and whether the citizens could expect that some individuals would not be protected. Energy Minister Petar Skundric stressed that questions about business rationality in the entire Serbian Power Company (EPS), especially in the Kolubara mine, had been raised long before B92 investigative program Insajder revealed numerous irregularities. “As a result of a joint effort today we have over five times lower consumption and lease of outside machines. In 2009, during the oil crisis, and in 2010 we had a record high production of coal in Kolubara and a record high production of electric power in unfavorable time,” he pointed out. Skundric also said that “everybody who made a mistake and committed a criminal act will have to be held responsible”. During the parliament debate, the energy minister denied allegations that only party members were getting jobs in the public companies and explained that the only criteria were qualifications for the job.
