The Parliament Committee On Defense And Security has adopted a draft decisions on armed forces engagement in multinational operations in 2011. The decisions were made according to the police, armed forces and defense ministry capabilities to respond to UN needs, State Secretary for Defence Tanja Miscevic stated. Committee approves sending soldiers to UN, EU missions Serbia is obligated to do that by a number of international agreements, she noted, adding that the new thing was the decision to take part in EU missions. Some of the agreements regarding peacekeeping missions should be signed by March 21, Miscevic remarked. The Defence Ministry has secured RSD 534.5mn out of the RSD 642.4mn needed for the operations, while the UN will provide the rest, she added. "Besides it being an international legal obligation, Serbia is also showing its capability and willingness to do its share of peacekeeping in the world," the secretary argued. Serbian police officers and soldiers will take part in UN operations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Lebanon, Cyprus, the Middle East, Somalia and Uganda.
