EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fule has praised the Serbian administration for answering the European Commission questionnaire quickly. "Independent judiciary, effective implementation of laws and meeting political criteria for EU membership are the essential pre-conditions for Serbia to get the EU candidate status and start pre-accession negotiations," he told daily Vecernje novosti. Referring to the way and speed of Serbia's EU accession, he said that Serbia had the capacity to make a speedy progress in EU integration. “The greatest challenge for Serbia and other countries aspiring to EU membership is implementation of laws, and regional cooperation and good-neighborly relations are of essential importance for Serbia,” the EU enlargement commissioner pointed out. “Full cooperation with the the Hague Tribunal is a pre-condition in each stage of Serbia's EU accession, as well as fighting organized crime and corruption, which are a problem for the entire Western Balkan region,” Fuele was quoted as saying.
