After its reorganization has been completed, KFOR will remain in close contact with citizens in all parts of Kosovo, KFOR Spokesman Hans-Dieter Wichter stated. He added that KFOR would provide a guarantee of security and freedom of movement for all Kosovo citizens. “KFOR to stay in contact with citizens” Wichter underlined that the information that had appeared in the media two days ago, according to which KFOR would abolish zones of responsibility and would not be in direct contact with citizens once the reorganization had been completed was not true. “This information is not true,” he said and added that even after new force structures had been set up KFOR would remain in close contact with citizens from all parts of Kosovo in order to guarantee the safety, secure environment and freedom of movement for all Kosovo citizens. The KFOR spokesman pointed out that five joint regional units under direct command of KFOR would take over regional responsibilities. According to Wichter, the units will be seated in Pristina, Camp Bondsteel, Villaggio Italia base, Novo Selo and Prizren and will be composed of several local liaison and supervision teams which should serve as a contact point for KFOR and all people in Kosovo. KFOR Commander Erhard Buehler stated on Wednesday that KFOR should complete its reorganization over the next few days, after which only 5,000 KFOR members should remain in Kosovo. (FoNet, file)
