False asylum seekers could bring back EU visas for Serbia and other countries, warnings from Brussels said, according to a Belgrade daily. As Serbian government officials delivered their answers to the EU questionnaire recently, they were told that a "concrete strategy to reduce the number of illegal immigrants needed to be created", writes the Blic newspaper. "Brussels threatens with reimposing visas" The European Union also said that unless this happened, Serbia and Macedonia, and after that other Western Balkans countries, would have visas imposed on their citizens once again. This comes after a constant increase in false asylum seekers recorded from September to December of 2010, said the report, when some 8,000 people attempted to move to Sweden, Germany and Belgium. They were for the most part ethnic Albanians from southern Serbia, and Roma. Some countries have "discouraged fake asylum seekers by abolishing money awards they gave everyone who applied for asylum", writes the newspaper, but concludes that "clearly, this did not yield any results".
