The International Steering Group for Kosovo (ISG) will hold a meeting in Brussels next week. International Civilian Office (ICO) spokesman Andy McGuffie announced in a statement that the ISG meeting will be held in Brussels on February 8, adding that "Deputy Foreign Minister of Kosovo Vlora Citaku will address the participants". International Steering Group to meet "The primary purpose of the ISG is to support full implementation of the Comprehensive Proposal for the Kosovo Status Settlement of UN Special Envoy Martti Ahtisaari," reported Tanjug. "ISG had its inaugural meeting in Vienna, on February 28, 2008. It is set up to guide Kosovo's democratic development and promote good governance, multi-ethnicity and the rule of law in accordance with the Ahtisaari plan on Kosovo," said the report. The plan drawn up by the former UN envoy was rejected by Belgrade and never adopted by the UN Security Council, but was used by Kosovo's ethnic Albanians when they three years ago unilaterally declared independence. The group is also responsible for appointing the ICO representative in Kosovo. It includes EU member states that have recognized Kosovo, and five non-EU countries - the US, Norway, Switzerland, Turkey and Croatia.
