“Kosovo partition not option”

NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen has said that a partition of Kosovo is not considered as an option by the international community. He underlined that the future Kosovo institutions should pursue a responsible and moderate policy. “Kosovo partition not option” Rasmussen told Pristina-based Albanian language daily Koha Ditore that NATO would remain the main guarantor of peace in Kosovo, adding that it was too early to talk about Kosovo joining NATO since the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) was not an army. “From the point of view of security, which concerns NATO and KFOR, what is expected or, better to say, demanded from the Kosovo leadership, is for it to continue implementing a contemporary and constructive policy,” the NATO secretary general argued. He said that reducing the military presence of NATO would not prejudice the safety and stability of the population and that the Alliance, no matter how small the number of its soldiers might be, would remain the main guarantor of peace and stability in Kosovo.
