Media reports about the government reshuffle are aimed at reducing the power of the Serbian Socialist Party, SPS leader Ivica Dacic told daily Vecernje novosti. He claims that there has not been a single concrete proposal for downsizing of the government. “Govt. reshuffle aimed at weakening SPS” “We are against changing the agreement, based on which the government was formed, through the so-called reshuffle,” the SPS leader stated, adding that the “forced” media reports were aimed at reducing the SPS’ involvement in the political scene ahead of the elections. “Everybody was in the governments with similar or higher number of members, and that didn’t bother them and nobody raised the question of reshuffle, not SNS (Serbian Progressive Party), not DS (Democratic Party), not G17 plus. Why wasn’t this thing set up like this from the beginning instead of doing this now, ahead of the elections,” Dacic pointed out. He says that the composition of government should be discussed when it is formed and not now. According to him, circumstances are different now and the SPS-United Pensioners' Party of Serbia (PUPS)-United Serbia (JS) coalition is now much stronger than when the government was formed in 2008. The SPS leader claims that the ruling coalition still has not proposed which ministries should stay and which ones should go and that the issue, therefore, should be systematically solved. “That’s why I think that the reshuffle is a short-term marketing move which will be valid until the elections and the government will then be formed in accordance with political needs. This is precisely why it is necessary to discuss what kind of government is optimal for Serbia. Otherwise everything turns into a saga without concrete proposals,” Dacic concluded.
