The Belgrade District Court will on January 25 give its verdict in the case of the murder of Frenchman Brice Taton. The announcement came today in Belgrade after both the defense and the prosecution finished their closing statements. Taton trial verdict on January 25 The defendants are running a risk of a 40-year imprisonment for killing the French national in Belgrade downtown on September 17, 2009 eve of a football match between Partizan Belgrade and Toulouse. On Tuesday, the defendants again denied being guilty and requested to be acquitted since they do not want to be held responsible for something they did not do. They also expressed their condolences to the Taton family. The Belgrade District Prosecutor's Office asked from the court to pass punishments in keeping with the law and thus show that violence will not be tolerated, adding that Serbia's reputation in the world was tarnished by this brutal act. The charges are pressed against 14 Partizan FC fans, while one of the defendants is charged with helping the perpetrators after the murder. Taton came to Belgrade to support his hometown football team with his friends a day before he was beaten. He died several days later in hospital.
