NIS to open oil rigs in Turkmenistan

Oil Industry of Serbia (NIS) has won a tender for opening of five oil wells in Turkmenneft oil fields in Turkmenistan. According to the official announcement, the project’s total value is about USD 33mn. NIS to open oil rigs in Turkmenistan NIS will be in charge of creating and carrying out the entire project which is expected to begin in June and finish in late February of 2012. NIS plans to drill two 4,800-meter-deep wells in the Akpatlauk oil field, two 3,800-meter-deep wells in the Ekerem field and one 4,500-meter-deep well in the Keimir field. NIS has announced that it will negotiate continuation of cooperation with Turkmenneft and expansion of joint activities. Owner of 51 percent of NIS shares is Russian state-run Gazprom Neft. According to the company’s web site, NIS has refineries in Novi Sad and Pancevo, that annually produce 7.3mn tons of oil and a retail chain of 480 gas stations in Serbia. The company also has its oil rigs in Serbia and Angola where it extracts about 1.5mn tons of oil a year. The company has a total of 11,000 employees.
