Thaci promises lifting of EU visas

Outgoing Kosovo Albanian PM Hashim Thaci has stated that 2010 was a "historic year for the establishment of Kosovo's statehood". Thaci promises lifting of EU visas Speaking about the challenges which Kosovo will face in 2011, Thaci said in an interview for BBC's Albanian-language service that by the end of next year, "Kosovo will be very close to the visa liberalization, and by the end of his (next) four-year mandate as prime minister, Kosovo will join NATO". Thaci qualified the early parliamentary election held on December 12 as "the first free elections in the independent and sovereign state of Kosovo, which fulfilled high international standard and were positively assessed by the U.S., EU, and other international observers". "It is irrefutable that there are discrepancies in election results, but this is a consequence of the lack of political culture and an expression of dissatisfaction with the results by certain political parties which have not won citizens' trust," Thaci said. Thaci said that he will form a government with representatives of political options oriented toward the future of Kosovo, which excludes the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), whose leader Isa Mustafa was described as a man "who belongs neither in the past nor in the future". Thaci has recently been in the news in connection to the Kosovo organ trafficking case, when a Council of Europe rapporteur named him as one of those responsible for kidnappings and murder of civilians for their body parts. Speaking about the challenges which Kosovo will face in 2011, Thaci said in an interview for BBC's Albanian-language service that by the end of next year, "Kosovo will be very close to the visa liberalization, and by the end of his (next) four-year mandate as prime minister, Kosovo will join NATO".
