The opposition Serb Progressives (SNS) have scheduled an anti-government rally in Belgrade for February 4. The Serb Radical Party (SRS) offshoot has not been tested in a general election, but opinion polls consistently show it to be one of the two most popular political parties in Serbia, along with the ruling Democrats (DS). Opposition party sets date for rally The rally in February of next year will be held in front of the parliament building, deputy SNS leader Aleksandar Vucic told reporters in Belgrade today. "We are asking absolutely nothing for ourselves from the authorities, but we are asking that they get serious, for the sake of the citizens, and call elections just a few months earlier, so that the decline of Serbia is alleviated at least for the amount of that period of time," he said. Vucic also stated that his party will immediately start talks with other opposition parties interested in taking part in the gathering, adding that both the authorities and the public will be "very surprised by the turnout". Opposition New Serbia (NS) has already said that they would help organize the gathering and called on their members and activists, and other Serbians who wish to see "changes and better living conditions", to "massively attend the rally". This party said that the rally will be "a good opportunity for the citizens to express their dissatisfaction and ask for early parliamentary elections". Aleksandar Vucic (Beta, file)
