Serbian Justice Minister Snezana Malovic says that Serbian judicial organs have taken pre-investigative measures in the case of the human organ trade in Kosovo. She is confident that the competent authorities will launch an investigation bearing in mind that this is a war crime. “Truth about organ trade will be revealed” “This case could be a test for the international community and we must do everything to achieve full cooperation because it is necessary to determine the truth, and Dick Marty’s report represents a great contribution in that sense,” the justice minister told daily Vecernje novosti. Malovic stresses that all those who are proven to have participated in the crime will have to be brought to justice and held responsible. “The Serbian judiciary has proven several times so far that it is capable of acting professionally,” she was quoted as saying. When asked what was new in the latest changes to the Law on High Judicial Council (VSS) and State Prosecutors’ Council (DVT), which had been drafted in cooperation with the Venice Commission and the European Commission (EC), the minister said that a minimum of 20 judges, that is 15 public prosecutors, would be able to propose the candidates for permanent makeup of the VSS and DVT. “This creates new conditions so a larger number of candidates could participate in the elections process. Aside from that, it has been envisaged that only one candidate, who won most votes of their colleagues, can be proposed to the parliament in order to eliminate doubts regarding political influence on the election of the VSS and DVT members,” Malovic pointed out. According to her, the changes have been completely harmonized with the EU’s positions and these laws were supported at the Venice Commission meeting. Snezana Malovic (Tanjug)
