The Danube Strategy is a development opportunity for Serbia and for strengthening relations with neighbors. It is one of the key indicators of Serbia's European future, said Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic on Monday in Golubac. Deputy PM praises Danube Strategy "Unheard of opportunities are coming to the Danube region. There will be money, not immediately for all, but it is important to preserve the prospects of the strategy," said Djelic at the presentation of the Danube Strategy with European Union in Serbia Delegation head Vincent Degert and Natalie Verselde of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Regional Policy. Degert said that the implementation of the Danube Strategy bore witness to a new stage in relations between Serbia and the EU and that was "an inclusive strategy which fosters solidarity between Serbia and the other countries through which the Danube flows." Djelic underlined that the implementation of the strategy, which encompasses 14 Danube countries and their neighbors, would be "one of the greatest ideas" to mark Serbia's entry into the EU. He recalled that the Danube flows for 578 kilometers through Serbia, a quarter of its course. "We must take advantage of its potential," said the minister. Natalie Verselde underlined that around 115 million people lived in the Danube countries and that the aim of the strategy was to release the potential of the Danube and jointly plan and coordinate work on all projects which would connect and strengthen the entire Danube region.
