The leader of the Socialists (SPS), interior minister and first deputy PM Ivica Dacic could emerge as Serbia's new premier. This would happen during the announced cabinet reshuffle, writes Belgrade-based Blic newspaper. Report: Dacic will be new PM Boris Tadic's Democrats (DS) are "ready to give Mirko Cvetkovic's chair to Ivica Dacic", in order to show that they consider Dacic's Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) their "strategic partner". As for the talks about the reshuffle, they should begin right after the DS party elections. The Blic source claims that Mirko Cvetkovic on several occasions complained that he could not lead a government where "everyone ran to the Presidency" (i.e., Tadic), and according to this, the Democrats now believe that the position should be offered to Ivica Dacic, as one of the leaders of the ruling coalition. But the party "would have to give up some of the ministries it currently holds," according to this. Those likely to hold on to their ministerial positions are Milutin Mrkonjic, "because the big support he enjoys within the party", and Jovan Krkobabic of SPS pre-election coalition with the Pensioners (PUPS) - "so as to maintain a stable ruling majority in parliament". But Zarko Obradovic, the Minister of Education, and Petar Skundric, the Minister of Energy and Mining would have to give up their positions in the government, says the newspaper. Commenting on the report today, DS official Dragoljub Micunovic told B92 that it would not be "realistic" for Dacic to take over as PM, as this would "cause conflicts in the ruling coalition".
