After the polls closed in the Kosovo elections this Sunday, it is still unknown how many Serbs voted, or which parties they supported. The elections were organized by the ethnic Albanian authorities, with the government in Belgrade deciding not to call on Serbs to vote. Turnout and results unclear in Serb areas Some parties, including the Independent Liberal Party (SLS), however, decided to take part, and tonight Beta news agency reports that leader Slobodan Petrovic "declared victory within the Serb community". According to this report, he also "opened a bottle of champagne in the party headquarters in (the Serb enclave) Gracanica". This was followed by "a display of fireworks", says Beta. Still in the works in a party to celebrate the victory, it has been announced. Petrovic also told reporters that his party data said that "out of 54,460 Serb voters south of the Ibar 21,940 turned out," while his party received "13,108" votes. All this is happening south of the Ibar River, where Serbs live in scattered isolated enclaves. Reports coming from the north of Kosovo, where Serbs are a majority, said that President of the Serb National Council Milan Ivanovic stated that Serbs boycotted the voting. Ivanovic told Beta that of "140,000 Serbs eligible to vote, some 15,000 did so", but south of the Ibar. "In the north, in the municipalities of Zubin Potok, Zvecan, Leposavic and Kosovska Mitrovica no Serb has voted," Ivanovic stated, and added that a number of Albanians who live in that part of Kosovo did take part in the election, which was "wrongly reported to look like Serbs turned out".
