Interior Minister Ivica Dacic says two Bosniaks attacked in northern Kosovo - one of whom died - had criminal records. Sefko Salkovic, 30, was killed and Edin Islamovic, 25, was injured in an armed assault in the village of Postenje on Wednesday. Interior minister on Kosovo killing Salkovic was described in reports as a political activist for the Bosniaks (Muslims) living in the northern, mostly Serb part of the province, who was loyal to the government in Pristina. The motive and perpetrators of his murder remain unknown. Dacic said on Thursday in Belgrade that on July 11, 2000, the Serbian authorities issued an international warrant for Salkovic for the murder of Enes Subasic in Novi Pazar, southwestern Serbia. The minister noted that Salkovic escaped to Kosovo after committing the crime, and added that his name was listed in the Serbian Interior Ministry's criminal records under charges for human trafficking in 2008 and participation in a fight in 1996. According to operational information, Salkovic came into contact with criminal groups in Kosovo and participated in their activities related to illegal trade, human trafficking, gunrunning and drug smuggling, Dacic said. The minister noted that the Police Department in Novi Pazar issued a warrant for Islamovic's arrest on December 2009, on suspicion that he was involved in incitement of ethnic, racial and religious hatred. Islamovic was also listed as the perpetrator of aggravated theft, infliction of slight bodily injury and violent behaviour, Dacic noted. According to information available to the Kosovo police, KPS, Salkovic and Islamovic were members of the Leposavic preparation team for the December 12 elections.
